Gdańsk + Shipyard

Interference Festival is created in Gdańsk mostly because of a strong artistic environment and cultural
offer of the city that organises or funds organising progressive cultural events such as Narracje,
Streetwaves, Blog Forum Gdańsk, Alternativa, Monumental Art, Solidarity of Arts and many others.
Inspirational and development friendly cultural infrastructure which helps creating such a big festival is
also an important factor. Interference will enrich cultural and artistic offer of the city, fitting into a
calendar of important and attractive to media, countrywide and eventually international events.

Gdańsk Shipyard (since 2006 Gdańsk Shipyard SA) - one of the largest polish shipyards, located in
Gdańsk, situated on the left side of Martwa Wisła and on Ostrów Island. Founded in 1945 on sites of
the former German shipyards of Jan Klawitter (since 1804), then Kaiserliche Werft Danzig (since 1844)
and Schichau (since 1890). Gdańsk Shipyard has delivered over 1000 seagoing ships, container ships,
reefers, bulk carriers and passenger ro-ro ferries. It was the arena of suppresion of protests and killing
three ship builders - victims of events of December 1970. It's also a birthplace of Solidarity, The Gdańsk
Agreement was signed here. Gdańsk Shipyard is a fantastic place for cultural activities as well. Kolonia
Artystów and Modelarnia functioned here, nowadays it's a place where Wyspa Institute of Art works and
clubs such as B90, Buffet or Wydział Remontowy can be found. Moreover, European Solidarity Centre
and Young City Gdańsk are created on this area.
